About two years ago, my friend in Calcutta, Sujay, asked me to take his fiancee, Radhika, for shopping as she wanted to buy a few clothes. I couldn\u2019t say no to him because he was too busy with his editorial assignment and she was new to the city.<\/p>\n
I took her to a famous outlet in Park Street. She picked up a beautiful dress and asked me: \u201cYou think Sujay will like this?\u201d<\/p>\n

Radhika said she didn\u2019t wear some of her \u201cfavourite and inexpensive\u201d dresses because Sujay and her other friends told her she didn\u2019t look good in them. \u201cSome of them were my parents\u2019 gifts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Radhika didn\u2019t answer and bent to sign on her credit card charge slip. I looked at her signature and I got my answer: she bothered too much about what others thought of her looks. The problem lay in the loop of her small case \u2018d\u2019.<\/p>\n
People with loops in their d\u2019s are extremely sensitive to personal criticism. The bigger the loop, the greater the sensitivity and therefore deeper the hurt.<\/p>\n
If I had wide loops in my handwriting and my friend passed a negative comment on my t-shirt, I\u2019d tell myself in private: \u201cWhy did she say that? What does she think of herself? She has no taste, her own dressing sense is awful! Why doesn\u2019t she mind her own business? I\u2019ll tell her off the next time she says anything to me about my dress\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know if I\u2019d be able to rebuff my friend, but with a loop like that in the letter, I\u2019d definitely stop wearing the apparel.<\/p>\n
In relationships, this loop causes fierce quarrels. If you frequently hear your partners scream, \u201cWhy did you do that? Why did you say that? You hurt me so much…\u201d, 80 per cent chances are they will have loopy d\u2019s, reflecting exaggerated sensitivity. Handling such people is an uphill task because once they think they\u2019ve been criticised and betrayed, they get defensive and offensive.<\/p>\n
The solution is to retrace the d\u2019s as part of a regimental graphotherapy exercise. It will reduce your sensitivity and empower you to take personal criticism with a pinch of salt and become thick-skinned.<\/p>\n
